So often in a furniture store your choices of fabrics are limited in regards to color, pattern, and style. You are most often limited to a particular selection the manufacturer has to offer. Why settle for one of fifteen or twenty options when there is a vast chain of fabric resources available in thousands of colors, textures, styles and price ranges to suit your specific needs? NOTE: Yardage estimates on the chart below are figured on solid patterns and does not account for things like, but not limited to: Cording being cut on the Bias, Material with a repeat pattern in one or both directions, Head or arm covers, loose back cushions instead of attached cushions, self-lined skirt, material railroaded or not, and others. These estimated yardages are based on basic solid fabrics, doing a very basic upholstery job. Please adjust yardages for your specific upholstering style, material being used and design difference in the exact piece you are covering. What does REPEAT refer to?
All fabrics typically will have patterns that will repeat after a certain point. A repeat refers to the length of the pattern before it repeats itself again. Normally, a repeat will come in increments of 3 inches. For example, the repeat can come after 3-6-9-12 inches & etc. The largest will typically be 27". Fabrics can have either a vertical and horizontal repeat or both. A repeat doesn’t make much of a difference in the yardage of the fabric unless it is a specific pattern that needs to be centered on the object. For example, centering the pattern may be necessary for seat cushions, the back of the sofa, front of sofa back, pillows, and upholstered headboards.
